Stay in Shape
Summer is the time when we naturally tend to move more, and staying fit happens almost effortlessly. We walk more, swim in pools or open water. The pounds melt away like crazy, and we feel fantastic! But as this beautiful season comes to an end, we face a challenge: how can we keep that great fitness level and figure for longer? If the word WATER doesn’t scare you away, a swimming pool is the perfect place to exercise your body and mind.
Whether it’s a school pool, a university facility, or a massive aquapark, you’ll find a wealth of activities that help you maintain your well-being, fitness, endurance, and coordination. They’ll also strengthen your muscles and reduce body fat.
You’ve already decided to take on this challenge! You think: I’m going for it! And then the questions pop up… Where should I start? How should I do it? What do I need to get started? Here are a few tips to help you begin.
First:
Find the nearest swimming pool and browse their website for class schedules. Choose activities that interest you, but don’t limit yourself. Test out everything that catches your eye, and in the end, pick something you won’t give up on—even when the weather outside is gloomy. Let it become your "lifesaver" for the winter season. You might be drawn to a specific type of class or to the personality of a particular coach. Read descriptions of activities offered by different programs, check social media reviews, and browse coach profiles to see what resonates with you.
Second:
Determine your skill level. Think it over and honestly assess your current athletic abilities. This will help you avoid disappointment and stay motivated.
FOR BEGINNERS
- Swimming Lessons - Classes where you will learn basic swimming skills, such as staying afloat, breathing in water, and moving in any way without touching the bottom. Most importantly, you will become comfortable in the water environment and familiarize yourself with different swimming styles.
- Aqua Aerobics - Also known as water gymnastics with music. During the sessions, you will use equipment provided by the instructor, such as noodles, dumbbells, and flotation belts. These classes leverage water resistance to support weight loss and improve body appearance.
- Aqua Jump - Classes on water trampolines. Jumping on them offers numerous benefits, including boosting metabolism and burning fat. It’s an excellent cardio workout in a fun and cheerful atmosphere!
- Aqua Bike - A workout ideal for those looking to lose weight, reduce cellulite, and improve circulation without placing excessive strain on the joints. It’s also a great supplementary training for triathletes.
FOR INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED SWIMMERS
- Swimming Technique Improvement - Classes at swimming schools where you’ll refine your technique in the four swimming styles using professional equipment (boards, fins, bands, paddles, and more). You’ll also learn the secrets of competitive swimming.
- Diving - Sessions where you’ll overcome personal challenges and fears, building character and resilience. You’ll enhance your ability to control your body and mind.
- SUP Boards - A great workout for strengthening the entire body, improving motor coordination, and enhancing balance – read more about SUP boarding and its benefits.
- Mermaiding - (Swimming with a mermaid tail) – a sport capturing the hearts of swimmers worldwide. It’s also a fantastic workout for the abs, glutes, and legs, suitable for both women and men.
- Diving - This activity strengthens the respiratory system, reduces stress, calms the heart rate, and lowers blood pressure. It also relieves pressure on the skeletal system (especially the spine) and the musculoskeletal system while strengthening muscles.
Third:
Remember the basic equipment every pool-goer should have. The starter kit you take to any swimming class includes: a swimsuit, towel, flip-flops, swim cap, and goggles. If you’re worried about missing something, ask during registration what equipment you’ll need to participate in the sessions stress-free and with joy.
Good luck!
